Before she began pursuing her career in the field of nutrition, she was a volunteer with the Wounded Warrior project, a charitable organization that offers a variety of programs and services to help wounded veterans affected by the events of September 11th. Lorraine hosted a number of veterans in her home, where she cared for them and learned from them. One of her greatest takeaways was the profound impact that food and mindset can play in healing, both physical and psychological. As Lorraine completed her schooling and began lecturing at City University New York, she was all the while pouring time and love into building New York City Nutrition into what it is today.

Lorraine is particularly passionate about female health, PCOS, thyroid disease, and autoimmune conditions as she has a personal connection to these disorders and has seen firsthand the healing that food can bring about. Her philosophy on nutrition focuses around listening to and honoring what your body tells you, and using seasonal, whole foods and a balanced lifestyle without deprivation. One of her goals is to take the abundance of information available out there and make it easily understandable and applicable on an individual level with each and every client. When she is not working, you might find her at the local farmer’s market, biking, or running another marathon (really anything outdoors). She enjoys cooking and creating new recipes to share with her family and friends.
How food is ingested and broken down by the body has always been a passion of mine. At first, it was a mere interest rather than a career, until one day a young soldier changed my life. Years ago, I had the opportunity to house wounded veterans in my home. Every summer, injured soldiers from Walter Reed Medical Center would come to my town to partake in rehabilitation activities. With each soldier I met, I learned something new about my life, empathy, perseverance, patience, and determination. These soldiers were trying to regain their life and were at the same time changing mine and shaping me into the person I have become.

Of the three soldiers, the first soldier taught me how love, honesty, and communication can rebuild relationships and help shape the future. The second soldier taught me patience and knowing when to give a person time to open up without pushing. The third soldier opened my eyes to the importance of food and to the psychological effect our mind has in making food-related decisions. After meeting him I knew that I had to pursue a career in nutrition to help people navigate through this amazing field.

When meeting with clients these are the skills I use along with two degrees in food and nutrition science from accredited colleges in dietetics and members of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. I also hold a minor in psychology. Combined, they help me implement individualized nutrition and lifestyle plan catered to the person’s specific needs.
