blood orange refresher

Today’s Blood Orange Refresher recipe is a quick drink that’s super refreshing, tasty, and good for you!

Drinks like this one are great because they feel fancy and give you the most refreshing hit during these summer months. They are low in sugar but are still sweet enough to satisfy that sugary drink craving, and are super hydrating too. Try this out with your favorite citrus fruit!

Nutritional Benefits

Blood orange is a fantastic source of vitamin C, as most citrus fruits are. Vitamin C is a vital nutrient, as it has a number of different benefits that are crucial for us. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and an antihistamine and is also important for pregnant women as they are directly beneficial to the fetus. Both diabetes and heart disease are associated with low vitamin C levels, so increasing your vitamin C intake naturally through fruit is a great way to lower the risk of these diseases.

Oranges have great antioxidant properties, which we need to get rid of any free radicals in the body. Oranges have a number of other minerals, like potassium, which we need to control the heart rate and blood pressure. They also have calcium! This is important for developing strong bones and preventing the risk of osteoporosis, as well as helping with muscle contractions. Oranges also have tons of fiber, which we need for promoting a healthy digestive system and stimulating regular bowel movements.

This drink is a great way to stay hydrated during the warmer months. As we are living through hotter days, we perspire more, which means our body loses water faster than it does during the winter months. Drinking water keeps our body hydrated and removes toxins from the body. Research has shown that 3 million fewer people in the US would develop degenerative diseases if they were more hydrated. Those who are less hydrated were demonstrated to have increased levels of inflammation and other factors associated with degenerative diseases, such as heart failure and lung disease. Low hydration is also related to high blood pressure and diabetes.
